A Rare Henty Short Story
The Grip was edited by
Major Arthur Griffiths who
also contributed along with
Henty to the Battles of the
Nineteenth Century
published
by Cassell and Company
Limited in 1896/7.

In the first issue of the Grip is
the story the Spy of Belfort
written by G. A. Henty. It is in
typical Henty style and tells
the tale of two school boys,
unable to take arms, in a town
newly surrounded by enemy
forces.

Harry Furniss the renowned
illustrator produced both the
front cover and numerous
'Boy Types' illustrations
throughout the papers life.
